This same day edit is special for many reasons. Not only is it our first same day edit where the couple had no clue it was being made, but that the bride and groom are of the extended family of alumiq productions/Onyx Cinema.

It’s also the first time I was the guest at a wedding in a long while AND having my team shoot it. Weird feeling to not have a camera in my hand. I’ve gotten to personally know Linda and Randy more and more over the years and learn how sweet, funny and caring Linda is and how light-hearted, considerate and fun-loving Randy is. Also just how well they go together, after more than 10 years of knowing each other.

They chose the perfect location at the Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa, California. Georgia decided to gift them the treat of a same day edit. So Marcus secretly entered behind the scenes, armed with a laptop and locking himself into a hidden dressing room at the end of a maze of a hallway. A few technical glitches made us chase our tails a bit (it won’t be much of a surprise if it doesn’t show at the secretly planned time, would it?), but we caught back on schedule.

They learned special choreography for their first dance, which was performed flawlessly. It was the only time I was allowed to put on a steadicam that day, being a guest and all. This was 45 minutes before showtime. Could we sneak it into the same day edit and still have time to render and set up???

While Linda and Randy were greeting tables, we set up the projector and sat them down in front of the screen. They were absolutely clueless as to what was coming. After Georgia vaguely introduced their gift to them, the video rolled, and the couple was speechless. It was a beautiful moment that I was honored to be a part of.
